The South-West corner of our garden had a radical clean-up today. This garden has never been fully explored since we moved in this house last October. It was not too bad looking from a distance, but for an observant gardener, it wasn’t at it’s best state. Among a few bulb plants and two trees, weeds were starting to take over and a couple of unwanted trees had volunteered to shade the lower growth.
I did have once tried pulling out as much as I could, but I stopped when I encountered some reptile. It was still a little too wet after a rainy period to work in there anyway.
As I was clearing some weeds next to the shaded area today, I gradually worked my way into the “mysterious” corner. It has been a cloudy day, perfect for any garden jobs. I managed to cut off the unwanted trees, pulled out all the weeds and cleared some dead wood and twigs.
Finally, the mock oranges next to the patio were trimmed at their top, for the first time! Previously this wasn’t able to be done due to lack of tools. With a new ladder from last Christmas, I successfully reached the top and gave them a good cut. They look a little bare at the moment, but I believe that soon the middle of the tree will grow more leaves with extra sunlight coming through.
Haven’t managed to download before/after photos from my camera. Will leave those till next time I sort photos.
I am interested to see what you call a weed considering some of the things you have cultivated are declared pest plants. Only 9 out of 10 snakes are poisonus here in Oz and we have the 14 most deadliest snakes in the world. Makes you want to move to Ireland !!
ReplyDeleteWheres St. Patrick when you need him.
Has uni started or Chis fallen off the perch, I cant figure if he's just a lonely old man or some uni geek, both have too much time on their hands. Wasted space breathing our air ;)
One of the definitions of weed is anything growing where you don't want it. I've never been to Irland, but I loved my gardening experience in NZ. So much less pest& disease problems there.
ReplyDeletehard to say less diseases in ireland - the great famine in killed 25% of the population. how many people dead in australia?
ReplyDeletejust cause uni students have to work hard during semester doesnt mean you can ridicule me
